Willard Wellness and Nutrition Class Information

You may register for many of the Willard wellness classes offered free through Willard University.  Please see the Willard U link below or the Wellness Activity Calendar for specific dates. Register for current classes being offered here:

Willard U Courses

*People are encouraged to sign up for the whole session, but are welcome to attend whatever classes they can make it to.  Don’t let missing a couple prevent you from signing up!*

Current Classes being offered :

Beginner’s Yoga – Willard Middle School, Room 222.

  • Semester 2 Session: Class will run Jan. 10-May 16 on Wednesday’s from 3:00-4:00 pm.
  • Semester 1 Session: Class will be from 3:00-4:00 pm on the following dates: Sept. 20, Oct. 4 & 18, Nov. 1, 15 & 29, Dec. 6 & 13.

We will work through a beginner’s yoga sequence. The style of yoga will be Hatha. *Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and a water bottle. Make sure to wear comfy clothes that you can move and stretch in.

Yoga – WOHE, Room 406. Class is from 4-5 pm on the following dates:

  • Semester 2 session: Jan. 9, 23, 30, Feb 6, 13, 20, 27, Mar 6, 20, Apr 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1
  • Semester 1 session: Oct 3, 10, 17, 24, Nov. 14, 21, 28, Dec 5, 12, and 19

This class will integrate many different types of yoga, from vinyasa to ashtanga. We will also end with a 5 minute meditation to release stress and you will leave feeling fresh and rejuvenated. This class is for all yogis- beginner to advanced. *Please bring a yoga mat, water if needed, and wear stretchable but tight shorts/pants. Also be mindful of others and practice with yoga etiquette (No talking throughout class, phones are not allowed unless there is an emergency situation).

Boot Camp – Central Elementary, Music Room. Class is on Tues/Thurs. from 4-4:45 pm on the following dates: Oct.3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 & 26. Don’t let the word Boot Camp scare you! This is an all abilities based workout. The workout will be set up and participants will work at their pace to complete it. I am a certified fitness instructor and have been teaching classes for 6 years at Doling Family Center. If you have concerns with knees, shoulders, back or other we can modify any exercise to work best with your body. *Please dress in tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. No need to bring weights as all equipment will be provided.

Pilates – Intermediate School, Gym. Class will be an 8-week session on Thursdays from 3:40-4:25 pm (Oct. 26-Dec. 14). This will be a mat work Pilates class that will start with the basics of Pilates and build to more advanced movements. Pilates is a type of exercise that will strengthen the core muscles, strengthen the back, increase flexibility, balance and muscle endurance. We will also learn how and when to breathe through each movement. Proper breathing will decrease or eliminate post workout soreness, oxygenate muscles, including the brain, which will boost mood and even has been known to improve the immune system. *Please bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one, if not, there will be some for you to borrow.

Healthy Cooking – Intermediate School, Teachers’ Lounge. Class meets on Wednesday from 3:40-4:40 pm on the following dates: Feb. 21, 28, Mar 7, 21, 28, Apr 4. 

Want tips and ideas on how to make quick, healthy lunches throughout the week? In this 6 week Willard U class we’ll tackle a different topic each week. Small supply fee may be requested for the Mar. 7 class. Class topics are below:

Feb. 21-Food Prep for week
Feb. 28-Low Carb lunch
Mar 7-Make ahead lunch
Mar 21-Paleo (High Protein/low carb) meal
Mar 28-Healthy Crock Pot meal
Apr 4-Low sugar dessert

**All wellness classes are offered free to Willard staff as a benefit of our wellness program.  Classes are not able to be used for district growth hours (DGH) or Instructional Excellence (IE).**
